We stayed here in early May. As we did not have a car at that time, we either walked or took the bus to the local attractions. However Brij and Ronette were such warm hosts; they offered to drive us whenever we needed to go for meals at the town center. Also they gave us great tips on going around Rotorua, making it a pleasant stay overall. Place was really clean too. Thanks Brij, Ronette (and Happy!) Regards, Danny & Sharon
Beautiful pool, very clean room, very accommodating and delightful owners that are excited to help you see the best of the region. It was like staying with your best friends parents! The mineral pools were smaller than expected but still lovely as the pool made up for it. The hotel kitty visit was the icing! Jennifer (visitors from Auckland)
Clean and tidy, comfortable beds. Loved the mineral pool after a day out cycling in forest. Host very friendly and helpful, offered to store bikes in secure area overnight. Bonus free unlimited WiFi. We'll be back! AleGood, May 2016
Our family of 8 was traveling throughout the north island NZ and had an enjoyable stay at the newly renovated Cottage. Very spacious, fully equipped kitchen, nice living area with a smart TV, free WiFi, well decorated and the beds are comfortable. One bathroom, but we managed the timing well. The facilities housed mineral springs, a heated pool, trampolines, also cookout equipment. Did I mention, free parking? That too. The best, though, was the hospitality of the local owners. From a hand written and personalized welcome letter, to giving 'only found in NZ' chocolates, to solid recommendations for activities to do and help with booking, Brij and Ronette are amazing. Have been staying at Cleveland for five years now and it's so wonderful that Mylene is back in charge. From being greeted with a warm smile and polite conversation about my journey, to receiving my room with complimentary chocolate and having full use of the facilities, the stay is always a relaxing and pleasant experience. The outdoor heated pool is a fantastic way to start and end the day, especially after adventuring around town and in the Redwood forest. The private mineral pools have also been a major draw card too. I've stayed in both studio and one bedroom apartments and they have always been warm and cozy, especially with the radiator heaters in there. It's a wonderful place to bring the family and even though it's near a main road the noise isn't really noticeable. Handy to all the amenities you need, fruit and veggie, bakery and takeaways straight across the road, you won't be left wanting.
If there's ever a concern, the team there is only too happy to listen to you and find a resolve. The owner is always looking to improve and invest in this great place and it's been great to see the changes over the years, only making Cleveland more feel like a home away from home.

Kath is amaaazing!!! Honestly, she is one of the best hosts I have ever dealt with. My family and I were passing through on our way to the East Coast from Auckland, so we only needed accommodation for one night. It was last minute that I had called, it was the week of Xmas, and she catered for us! We were greeted with chocolate fish, pool towels and milk upon arrival! The pool was so refreshing on a super-hot day, and the kids thoroughly enjoyed the trampolines! The rooms were nice and clean, and the beds were very comfortable! Thank you for looking after us Kath, you went over and above for me and my family, and we really appreciated a quality high standard of hospitality! You are outstanding!!! :) Lady P., January 2025
Lovely stay. Staff are really friendly and accommodating, couldn't do more for us. Our host was Mylene. The pool's lovely, warm and bigger than expected. It's an ideal location close to shopping areas, food shopping etc. There's also nice areas for families, but if you're just a couple relaxing it's great too! I've stayed at the Cleveland Motel about 8 years in a row. It's perfect for me and my 2 grandsons. The larger units have 2 bedrooms and a lounge which is ideal for a family. There are also smaller units. The units are comfortable and well equipped. The mattresses on the beds are fabulously comfortable (I pulled the sheets off before I left to find out the brand with a view to getting it for my bed at home). The hot pool is huge and wonderfully hot in winter. There are trampolines for the kids. It's well located. The owners are very welcoming.
I'll keep returning until my grandsons decide they're too old to holiday with Poppa. Keith B., July 2024
Can't recommend this place enough. My GF was having her 50th Bday celebration and I attempted to arrange a surprise when we arrived from Pennsylvania. Needless to say I was only expecting a small set up with maybe a bottle of wine in the room. I was shocked by the elaborate display that they had organized for me from 1/2 way across the globe. I can't thank the staff at Cleveland Thermal enough for assisting in planning such a wonderful surprise of cake, balloons and flowers. My GF loved it and you guys are the best!!!
